THE COMPLETE SANTORINI, GREECE TRAVEL GUIDE

Santorini is one of the most breathtaking places we have ever visited. We spent most of our time in Oia, as our dream was to stay within a traditional white cave house overlooking the caldera, however, there are a lot of beautiful beaches and towns to explore across the island.

Santorini airport is relatively central with direct flights from the likes of London. To maximise the 3 days we had in Santorini we initially stayed down the bottom of the island in Perissa for a night, which is known for its black sand beaches. This had a very relaxed feel and was cost-efficient compared to Oia.

Staying in Oia, allowed us to enjoy the caldera view and beautiful cave coastline from the comfort of our traditional house, away from the crowds of tourists. Our experience was absolute bliss as we enjoyed most meals next to our outdoor plunge pool.

WHERE TO EAT

Melitini - authentic Greek-style tapas with a good rooftop view of the Caldera. The grilled octopus and orange cake were a standout.

Sunset Ammoudi Taverna - unfortunately we didn't get a chance to eat here, however, it was recommended to us as you are right next to the crystal clear water.

Pito Gyros - the perfect spot for a casual lunch or dinner of tasty Gyros and fries.

WHAT TO DO

Ammoudi Bay - I recommend making your way to Ammoudi for a relaxed afternoon, commencing with a delightful lunch. Just around the corner lies Agios Nikolaos Rock, an excellent location for both cliff diving and sunbathing. The path is through the restaurants to the left, once you've walked through you should spot it from there.

Hike from Fire to Oia - This is a two-and-a-half hour hike that has the most amazing views of the ocean. We didn't do this as it was far too hot during the day, however, if you go in the morning it won't be too bad.

Perissa Black Sand Beach - this beach is famous for its black sand. There are also plenty of nearby tavernas where you can grab lunch and go back to soaking up the sun.

Walk through Oia town - despite the masses of people, Oia is very beautiful, all the white houses and little shops are a good way to kill some time. The views of the Caldera are also amazing.

Relax and unwind– the Greeks are all about maintaining an easy, comfortable way of life. Enjoy the views, have a leisurely lunch, and take a nap. You’ll feel like a local in no time.
